Details On Will Ospreay Joining AEW

How did Will Ospreay's AEW deal come about?

One of the biggest stories coming out of AEW Full Gear 2023 last night was the signing of Will Ospreay to AEW, who “signed” his contract in the middle of the ring. He provided some details on his arrival, stating that he was still going to finish up his spell with NJPW before finally coming over to AEW.

Fightful Select have provided more details on Ospreay’s deal, including how it came about, for how long, and who else was in the running for his signature.

The premature nature of this deal considering Ospreay is still under contract with NJPW came about due to the working relationship between NJPW and AEW. After informing the company that he was not re-signing, he was given their blessing to move over to AEW, with this still opening him up for potential working dates with NJPW in the future.

Ospreay has signed a multi-year deal, and is able to still be located in the UK despite AEW being a US company. Fightful also confirmed WWE had interest in Ospreay, but quickly the feeling was that he was AEW bound. Even though AEW were teasing a “blockbuster signing”, it is noted that Ospreay and AEW hadn’t signed anything until late this week.
