As Dustin Rhodes winds down his in-ring career he seemingly still has a multitude of ideas he wants to execute whilst he can, including the potential revival of the King of the Road match.
Rhodes recently took to X/Twitter, posting two screenshots of the match with the following message: "Should we bring this back? #KingOfTheRoad @AEW STYLE?"
To date, there has only been one King of the Road match in wrestling history, with the infamous stipulation seeing Blacktop Bully defeat Rhodes at Uncensored 1995. As for the rules of the match, two wrestlers fight at the back of a moving 18-wheel flatbed trailer truck, with the winner being the first to blow a horn. The match was bloody, and a mess, and despite appearing on a show called ‘Uncensored’, Rhodes was fired by WCW for blading. He then arrived in WWE several months later as Goldust.
Whilst AEW have revived several old WCW names and stipulations such as Bash at the Beach and the WarGames-inspired Blood & Guts, King of the Road may prove to be a step too far.
