A former champion in New Japan Pro-Wrestling could be interested in a move to WWE.

New Japan are currently in the middle of their annual contract negotiation season, with recent reports suggesting that Kevin Knight’s contract has expired, leaving the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion a free agent. A report from Fightful Select suggests that whilst Knight could sign a new deal with NJPW, he has expressed an interest in having a discussion with WWE about a potential move.

Since the expiration of his NJPW deal - a move that saw he and KUSHIDA drop the tag titles to the Ichiban Sweet Boys at Wrestle Kingdom 19 in January - Knight has worked former indie stomping grounds GCW/JCW, as well as working for MLW and Ring of Honor.

The report also states that Knight did have talks with Rocky Romero and ROH President Tony Khan at the ROH tapings, although it is not known what these talks were about.

Aside from Knight, several NJPW talents are possibly working without contracts. The likes of Gabe Kidd, Zack Sabre Jr., and David Finlay all had expiring contracts and it is unknown if they have since re-signed with New Japan.
