It suddenly emerged on Tuesday night that Sammy Guevara had been suspended by All Elite Wrestling and it is unknown when the former TNT Champion will return to the promotion.

Guevara was suspended by AEW over his conduct in his No DQ Match with Jeff Hardy on the February 16 episode of AEW Rampage. In the match that was taped on February 14, Hardy suffered a broken nose after Guevara's leg went straight into his face following a botched Shooting Star Press. Concussion protocol was not followed after the botched move which led to Guevara hitting Hardy with the GTH for the finish.

The immediate reaction following news of Guevara's suspension was one of sympathy as many questioned why Guevara had been suspended, with much of the initial blame from fans being put on the referee and AEW's medical team for not immediately stopping the match if Hardy was in concussion protocol.

In an update on the situation, however, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that Sammy Guevara was told to pin Hardy following the botched Shooting Star Press but he went ahead and hit his GTH finishing move. Meltzer did note it is unclear why the referee or AEW's medical team didn't just stop the match immediately.

Guevara wrestled after the match with Hardy, losing to Powerhouse Hobbs in another No DQ Match on the February 24 edition of Collision. Guevara has been suspended by AEW before in 2020 over historic inappropriate comments about Mercedes Moné.

Jeff Hardy has been out of action since the Rampage match with a broken nose. He is currently undergoing tests.
