Goldberg has revealed he pitched to appear in All Elite Wrestling during Sting's final months as an active wrestler. The pitch never went anywhere, however, and the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion has claimed he and AEW were never close to reaching a deal.

"No, I don't think I was ever close to making a deal with him. I think it was much more a realistic transition when Sting was involved. I reached out to Sting because I wanted to be a part [of it], I thought he and I could do a farewell thing at some point together. But it wasn't about me, it was about Sting and I could never overshadow anything that he does. But I don't want to convolute the waters. It would have been a nice crescendo but it wasn't about me. So the timing was kind of off," Goldberg told Insight with Chris Van Vliet.

Goldberg has previously said he finds AEW's product to be "too cheesy." This prompted a quick response from Tony Khan, who revealed that Goldberg had wanted to sign with the promotion in the past. Reports have indicated the two sides had been in talks since 2018 over an appearance from Goldberg but talks fell apart earlier this year.

Goldberg has not wrestled since WWE Elimination Chamber in February 2022 but he has expressed interest in having one more match after he recovers from a torn rotator cuff.
