Gunther Wins WWE King Of The Ring In Botched Finish

Botched finish at WWE King and Queen of the Ring!

Controversy at WWE King and Queen of the Ring!

The final of the King of the Ring at the WWE King and Queen of the Ring pay-per-view saw Raw's Gunther face off with SmackDown's Randy Orton. The match largely centred around Orton selling his back and knee but Randy managed to connect with a second RKO in the final moments of the match.

Orton managed to crawl over to Gunther to make the cover but Der Ring General's kick-out was so vicious that Orton tweaked his knee. This allowed Gunther to counter into a Crucifix Pin and the official counted the 1-2-3 despite Orton's shoulder lifting off the mat in a botched moment that was reminiscent of the WrestleMania 35 main event.

Following the match, Triple H crowned Gunther as the King of the Ring and he will challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam from Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio on August 3. Damian Priest is the current World Heavyweight Champion but he will defend the belt next against Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle in Glasgow, Scotland.

Earlier at WWE King and Queen of the Ring, Nia Jax crushed Lyra Valkyria with her Annihilator finisher to become Queen of the Ring.
