Hulk Hogan Biopic With Chris Hemsworth Scrapped
Chris Hemsworth Hulk Hogan biopic movie scrapped
Aug 21, 2024
The long announced Hulk Hogan biopic has been scrapped, ending years in development hell.
Set to star Chris Hemsworth, a movie about the life and career of ‘The Hulkster’ had been in the works since at least 2019, with Joker director Todd Phillips originally set to helm the piece. However during a recent interview with Variety ahead of the release of Joker: Folie à Deux, Phillips confirmed that the project was dead, saying: “I love what we were trying to do, but that’s not going to come together for me.”
Hogan himself had intimated in late 2023 that the project was dead in the water due to a ‘business glitch’ with Netflix pulling out of the deal to produce the movie. Hemsworth - who had been attached to the project since 2019 - said in May 2024 that he was hopeful of bringing the project to life.
Whilst there is no official word on why the movie has been cancelled, Hogan’s recent political appearances ahead of the 2024 US presidential election, and long-standing issues with racially insensitive comments may have caused some to baulk at the idea of a movie celebrating the professional wrestling icon.
