IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title Match Official For NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

A new title match at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

A new title match has been set for Wrestle Kingdom 17.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced today that Taiji Ishimori will defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom in a Four-Way against El Desperado, Hiromu Takahashi, and Master Wato. The match came about after a confrontation between all four competitors at Declaration of Power on Monday following Wato's non-title win over Ishimori.

The Bone Soldier has been IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion since defeating El Desperado for the gold at Wrestling Dontaku in May. Ishimori then successfully defended the title against Hiromu Takahashi in late June. He hasn't put the belt on the line since then.

Already booked for Wrestle Kingdom 17 is an IWGP World Heavyweight Title match between Jay White and G1 Climax 32 winner Kazuchika Okada. The match was made official on Monday after White's successful defence against Tama Tonga.

Wrestle Kingdom 17 will take place on January 4, 2023, inside the Tokyo Dome. Check out the lineup below:

  • Jay White (c) vs. Kazuchika Okada - IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
  • Taiji Ishimori (c) vs. El Desperado vs. Hiromu Takahashi vs. Master Wato - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship
