John Cena says he really enjoyed his recent return to WWE but concedes he came 'second place' in his Universal Championship Match with Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2021.

Cena made a shock return to WWE at Money In The Bank in July, setting up a feud with Reigns which culminated in a main event match between the duo at SummerSlam. The 16-time World Champion worked Monday Night Raws, Friday Night SmackDowns and live events during his recent comeback.

Cena was delighted to be back working in front of live audiences for the WWE, saying there's no better feeling, but knows he came up short against The Tribal Chief.

Speaking about his return to WWE on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Cena said: "Dude, it was great. I had a wonderful match. I finished second place… I had a month off and they [WWE] were like, ‘Hey, you wanna come to work?’ I was like, ‘Do I?!’ and they said, ‘Live audiences are back,’ and I love live audiences.

That was nice. There is no better feeling than being in front of a live audience. I’m so grateful to have all of you here. I’m so grateful to be back with a live audience. There is no other energy like performing or entertaining, telling stories or just shooting the s*** in front of a live audience. So thank you very much."
