Despite lobbying for a role in the upcoming Fight Pit Match between Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules, WWE decided to pass over Ken Shamrock in favour of fellow UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier.
Though he was not chosen as the bout's guest referee, The World's Most Dangerous Man is happy for Cormier, responding: "This is amazing, I'm hoping Daniel Cormier will have a role in WWE after this match" to Ariel Helwani's initial announcement.
A fan then replied to Shamrock's tweet, saying they were 'hoping' for him instead, to which the former Intercontinental Champion wrote: "Hey he is a great choice! If the fans make it known they want me back i'm sure WWE will find a way to make it possible at some point. Triple H has had some great bookings".
The 1998 King of the Ring winner left WWE in late 1999 in order to return to mixed martial arts.
He has yet to make a WWE-related appearance since, though he has had a couple of spells in TNA/IMPACT. The former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion is a member of the IMPACT Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Shamrock has previously stated that he believes he has done enough to deserve induction into WWE's Hall of Fame.
