Kenny Omega AEW Return Update

Kenny Omega is set to return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling for Wrestle Dynasty on January 5, but what about All Elite Wrestling?

Omega is set to wrestle his first match in over a year when he takes on Gabe Kidd inside the Tokyo Dome, with Omega stating he feels a debt of gratitude to NJPW. However, Omega is a full-time contracted star and EVP of AEW, and some have wondered why Omega isn’t returning at an AEW event.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer states that as Wrestle Dynasty is an official crossover show between NJPW, AEW, ROH, CMLL, and STARDOM, it can be seen as AEW’s official Japanese debut, with Omega’s involvement sure to help ticket sales due to his legacy in the country.

As for his future beyond Wrestle Dynasty, the report states that Omega wants to ‘take it slow’ before returning to a full-time schedule, with the idea of easing back into the max and ‘hoping everything holds up’.

Omega last wrestled in December 2023 before contracting diverticulitis. The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion has undergone surgery and rehabilitation throughout 2024.
