On the March 10 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Rey Mysterio was announced as the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023. This came as a surprise considering he is still a full-time performer, but there is no denying that he has a Hall of Fame worthy career.

After first being reported in the Los Angeles Times, Dave Meltzer confirmed on twitter than Konnan will be the one to induct Mysterio into the Hall of Fame;

“Konnan will be inducting Rey into the Hall of Fame. Rey asked for him and the company approved it. As noted last night, to me it was the only choice.”

Konnan is notably a lifelong friend of Mysterio and a former tag team partner, competing together as part of the Filthy Animals in WCW. Konnan is also the godfather of Mysterio’s son, Dominik, with whom the future Hall of Famer is feuding with ahead of WrestleMania 39, in what could well be his final ever match based on the fact that his induction into the Hall of Fame is approaching.
