Latest Update On Kevin Kelly & Tate Twins Lawsuit Against AEW
AEW have issued a response in the ongoing lawsuit
Oct 12, 2024
A lawsuit was filed back on August 30 by Kevin Kelly & The Tate Twins, formerly employees of AEW, alleging defamation and seeking to void the arbitration clauses in their contracts, in addition to requesting the court to certify a class-action lawsuit over the classification of AEW performers, which is believed to be blurring the lines between independent contractors and employees, and having more control over talent than they should. The Tate Twins are also seeking to file for wrongful termination. There is a notable update on the status of this lawsuit, as the defendants have now responded.
Representatives for AEW, Tony Khan, and Ian Riccaboni have issued a 40-page response, seeking claims for the following: declaratory judgment, breach of contract, tortious interference with a contract or business relationship, and defamation and false light among the allegations. Additionally, they requested the case to be dismissed and to enforce the arbitration clauses in their contracts.
They are also looking for the case to be moved to Jacksonville, Florida due to only two of the case members (Kelly & Riccaboni) being from Pennsylvania, and that due to AEW being based in Florida (where the contracts were drawn up), it should be moved. Another reason for moving to Florida is due to the claim that Riccaboni would incur greater costs to defend himself after being ‘unnecessarily’ included in the contract-related claims against AEW.
The lawsuit unveiled how much money AEW had paid talent since 2022, which can been read here.
