Matt Cardona Thinks He'll Eventually Return To WWE

Matt Cardona expects to go back to WWE at some point

Amidst rumours and speculation about his pro-wrestling future, Matt Cardona has admitted he thinks he will eventually return to WWE.

"So when I got released from WWE, ever since that day, my goal has not been, oh, what can I do to go back to WWE? What do I need to do to impress people to get back there? No, that's not my goal. But I'd be lying if I said I never wanted to wrestle at Madison Square Garden again, or I never wanted to have a WrestleMania moment again. Of course I do. So will Matt Cardona ever go home? I think eventually, but not as Zack Ryder, because Zack Ryder is dead," Cardona told Wrestling Inc.

Cardona was released by WWE in April 2020 and he has since established himself as one of the top stars outside of the company as The Indy God, having wrestled for the likes of GCW, IMPACT Wrestling, and the National Wrestling Alliance over the past few years.

The 37-year-old has been tipped for a return to WWE since the beginning of 2023, especially since his wife Chelsea Green had her second debut at the Royal Rumble. Recent speculation has suggested Cardona could be a surprise return on the Raw after WrestleMania 39 but in a possible sign he isn't WWE-bound, The Indy God is scheduled to have a rematch with Bully Ray on July 1.
