Earlier this week Mauro Ranallo informed WWE that he planned to return to NXT on Wednesday, and before last night's broadcast, rumours swirled that he was present backstage.

The Voice of NXT was indeed backstage and made his return to WWE TV on last night's show - rejoining Nigel McGuinness and Beth Phoenix in the commentary booth.

During his entrance, Ranallo jigged his way out of gorilla, hugging Phoenix and shaking McGuiness's hand on the way. Once his music started playing everyone in attendance at Full Sail stood to give the announcer a standing ovation. After this, Ranallo sprinted to his position on the announcers table while being serenaded with chants of "Mamma Mia!"

This followed a tumultuous period in Ranallo's WWE career.

During NXT TakeOver: WarGames Corey Graves criticised the The Voice Of NXT on Twitter.

He wrote: "Just for the record guys. I know you wouldn’t know it, but there’s actually a WWE Hall of Famer AND a former Ring of Honor Champion on commentary. I’d imagine they have a lot to offer." Following the tweet, Ranallo deactivated his Twitter account, and did not appear at Survivor Series or last week's episode of NXT.

Graves has since apologised for the tweet, but failed to refer to Ranallo directly.
