Multiple Future Title Matches Set At NJPW Dominion

Some big matches on the horizon

New Japan Pro-Wrestling's future became clearer at today's Dominion show and multiple title matches were set heading into the summer.

One match has been made official for June and early July's Kizuna Road tour and El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori will challenge Roppongi 3K for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. The Bullet Club men have previously held the gold on two occasions, most recently for 33 days in January and February 2021.

Taiji Ishimori has his eyes on singles gold too and he challenged El Desperado to an IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title match following Despe's win over YOH at Dominion. The champion immediately accepted and now fans await NJPW's official sanction.

Tension between El Phantasmo and Ishimori could play into both title matches. ELP looked set to issue his own challenge to Despe but The Bone Soldier snatched the microphone out of his hand, leaving Phantasmo looking somewhat bemused.

The challengers for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship also look to have revealed themselves. Tetsuya Naito, SANADA and BUSHI picked up a win over Dangerous Tekkers and DOUKI at Dominion after Zack Sabre Jr. was pinned by SANADA. The former X-Division Champion and Tetsuya Naito then had a staredown with ZSJ and Taichi after the match and a title bout between the two teams appears to be on the horizon.

One final title match was then set following the main event. Shingo Takagi defeated Kazuchika Okada to win the vacant IWGP World Heavyweight Championship after a 36-minute battle, while Kota Ibushi had vanquished Jeff Cobb earlier in the show. As a result, The Dragon invited Ibushi to the ring during his post-match celebration and challenged The Golden Star to a future world title match. Ibushi immediately accepted.
