New Champions Crowned On WWE SmackDown

SmackDown saw new champions crowned

Amidst all the huge news over the last few days regarding Vince McMahon’s lawsuit and resignation, WWE still held their weekly episode of Friday Night SmackDown last night, and it was certainly a busy night on the Royal Rumble go-home show. In fact, new champions were crowned on the show.

Damage CTRL’s Asuka & Kairi Sane (team name of the Kabuki Warriors) stepped up to challenge the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Katana Chance & Kayden Carter last night, and they ended up leaving as the brand new champions, starting their second reign as a duo (and Asuka’s record fourth reign individually).

It may have been a celebratory night for the Damage CTRL faction (with them now holding both WWE Women’s Championship gold and the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles too) as the members of the group were joyful in the ring, but Bayley was once more on the sidelines and left out of the camaraderie, which could spell trouble for the group ahead of the Royal Rumble PLE.

Chance & Carter were champions for just 40 days after picking up the gold from Chelsea Green and Piper Niven at the back end of last year.
