NJPW Confirm Two Positive COVID-19 Tests

There were changes to the second night of Wrestling Dontaku because of fevers

New Japan Pro Wrestling have confirmed that two of their wrestlers have returned positive tests for COVID-19.

NJPW confirmed in a statement that the duo, who have not been named, had presented with a high temperature on Tuesday 4 May and, in accordance with protocols, were taken for testing and those they had close contact with were removed from proceedings.

Those two tests were returned as positive for coronavirus, with the two wrestlers experiencing mild symptoms.

The update follows news on Tuesday that six wrestlers - Kazuchika Okada, Minoru Suzuki, El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, SHO, and YOH - were removed from the second night of Wrestling Dontaku, after two of them developed fevers prior to the start of the card.

NJPW have also confirmed that other wrestlers and staff who had contact with the two wrestlers are 'currently being monitored in a controlled environment and are receiving relevant tests'.

Several matches from night two of Wrestling Donatku were changed due to the COVID-19 protocols, with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title match between champion El Desperado and challenger YOH removed from the card entirely.

NJPW have apologised to fans for the late changes and appreciate the concern and understanding shown.
