NJPW Confirms Mercedes Moné Injury

New Japan have confirmed the injury to Moné

New Japan Pro-Wrestling have confirmed the injury suffered by former IWGP Women's Champion Mercedes Moné.

A statement posted to the NJPW website read:

"During her match with Willow Nightingale in the main event of Resurgence May 21, Mercedes Moné sustained an injury to her right ankle. Moné underwent a thorough appraisal of her injury immediately after her match and began treatment. New Japan Pro-Wrestling joins fans in wishing Moné a full and fast recovery."

Though the statement does not disclose the exact nature of the injury, it is believed to be a broken ankle. Mercedes had to be carried to the back after the match. At this point, there is no timetable for her return and she herself has not commented on the injury.

Moné was originally supposed to beat Nightingale for the NJPW STRONG Women's Title, but changed plans on the fly due to the injury.

Moné's long-term New Japan future is unknown, having signed an extension with the company in April. The former Sasha Banks recently hinted that she has major plans outside of the business, including in the film and television industry.
