Post for NJPW Strong Style Evolved 2024

New Japan Pro-Wrestling returned to the USA for their final major show before Wrestle Kingdom and Wrestle Dynasty on January 4 & 5, with Strong Style Evolved taking place in California on December 15.

Mina Shirakawa kicked off the show with a win over Johnnie Robbie, with Mina getting the win with a Glamorous Driver on the second time of asking.

We have new Strong Openweight Tag Team Champions as the West Coast Wrecking Crew (Jorel Nelson & Ropyce Isaacs) defeated Grizzled Young Veterans James Drake and Zack Gibson to lift the belts. The GYV were dominant throughout, exploiting a tired Isaacs who had faced Josh Barnett in Bloodsport the night prior. However Isaacs would get the win with a roll-up on Drake, with Nelson subduing Gibson on the floor.

Rocky Romero came out to congratulate the new champions and suggested they put the belt on the line against himself and YOH at Battle in the Valley, but WCWC just attacked Rocky and left him lying.

TJP got a win over Clark Connors, Kosei Fujita, and KUSHIDA, whilst TJP’s United Empire team mates Jakob Austin & Templario picked up a tag win over LIJ’s Hiromu Takahashi & Titán. Elsewhere, Hechicero got a win over Lio Rush in singles action, whilst the TMDK team of Bad Dude Tito, Shane Haste, and Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Dirty Work and Shota Umino in trios action ahead of Sabre vs. Umino at Wrestle Kingdom.

With a huge bout against Kenny Omega only weeks away, Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd was hoping to impress with a title defence against Ryohei Oiwa. The Bullet Club War Dog put Oiwa away with a piledriver and a Madman Bomb, before taking a mic to disparage Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, and all of AEW as a whole.

AEW stars Jack Perry and Konosuke Takeshita were in action next, picking up a tag team win over LIJ’s Shingo Takagai and Yota Tsuji. A statement win for the makeshift team. Post-match the heels beat down LIJ, only for Hiromu Takahashi to make the save as Takeshita left. This brought out The Young Bucks who laid Hiromu out with a Superkick Party.

The main event saw NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Mercedes Moné put the title on the line against Hazuki. A back-and-forth bout with Hazuki showing a lot of heart and determination, even getting her foot to the rope to thwart a double Backstabber Moné Maker combo. A third Moné Maker sealed the deal, with Moné confronted by Mina Shirakawa post-match to set up a title-for-title clash in the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.
