NJPW To Introduce New Tag Team Titles

New tag team titles coming to NJPW

New Japan Pro-Wrestling continue the expansion of their STRONG brand in the United States.

The promotion announced today that STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships will be introduced this summer. The inaugural champions will be crowned following an eight-team single-elimination tournament that is scheduled to begin at the NJPW STRONG Ignition event on June 19 at the Vermont Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. The first round and semifinals will be taped at that show.

The final of the tournament will then take place one month later at the NJPW STRONG High Alert show from the Gracy Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 24.

Participants in the tournament will be revealed soon.

An NJPW STRONG singles title in the STRONG Openweight Championship was introduced in 2021, with Tom Lawlor winning a tournament to become the inaugural champion. He has since dropped the gold to Fred Rosser.

NJPW have two sets of tag team titles already. The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championships are currently held by Ryusuke Taguchi and Master Wato, while Chase Owens and Bad Luck Fale are currently in their first reign as IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions.
