Report: 2 AEW Talents Test Positive For COVID-19, Dynamite Match Scrapped

A weaker show than usual on Wednesday

While the August 25 episode of AEW Dynamite provided plenty of entertaining moments, many considered the show to be weaker than other Dynamite shows from recent weeks.

Some unforeseen circumstances impacted the card, though, according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer.

Meltzer noted there were several changes for Wednesday's Dynamite, which included one match being scrapped altogether after two AEW talents tested positive for COVID-19. The match hadn't been advertised for this week's show as AEW planned to add it to the card just before the episode.

Both wrestlers were fully vaccinated and they did not experience COVID-19 symptoms.

As previously noted, Gangrel was also scheduled to appear on the show in Milwaukee but his spot was scrapped following Edge's Brood entrance at SummerSlam. AEW confirmed to Meltzer that Gangrel was going to appear on Dynamite and that it was cancelled after Seth Rollins' Broodbath on Friday Night SmackDown. Gangrel was still paid as if he was on Dynamite.

2point0's angle on Dynamite was also scrapped because Matt Lee's wife gave birth to a baby boy on Sunday.

Speaking to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Tony Khan admitted he wanted to showcase AEW's biggest names on the show because he knew Dynamite would have a big audience, but he realised with the unforeseen changes that the match quality would be below what Khan would have liked. The AEW President did praise Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Hardy and The Varsity Blonds vs. The Lucha Brothers.
