Report: At Least One Ex-WWE Star Received Reduction In No-Compete Stipulation

WWE has let go numerous talents in recent months

Following several rounds of WWE talent releases, reports have come out concerning released wrestlers trying to opt out of serving (or at least gain a reduction in) their "non-compete" periods.

Sean Ross Sapp at Fightful Select notes that "multiple WWE releases from 2021 have asked to have lenience or to forego their non-compete clauses."

One unnamed talent was able to get a reduction on their non-compete period, though it's not clear if they're free to sign elsewhere as of this writing.

The report states, "We gained confirmation that at least one of them has gained an early out on their WWE no-compete clause, and WWE were willing to let them out of the entirety of it, but that it didn't end up happening."

Depending on the nature of their contract, and the circumstances of their release, an ex-WWE talent could have a non-compete period of either 30 days or 90 days. Once free from their non-compete obligation, a talent can sign anywhere immediately.

Some recent cuts have been able to bypass non-compete periods altogether. FTR in April 2020 and Andrade El Idolo in March 2021 were able to obtain releases that didn't include non-competes.
