Report: Backstage News On Chris Jericho's Shock AEW Dynamite Loss To Action Andretti
Chris Jericho wanted to make Action Andretti a star on AEW Dynamite
Dec 15, 2022
While Chris Jericho was expected to get back to winning ways when he faced Action Andretti on AEW Dynamite, the young talent shocked the world as he pinned the eight-time world champion clean in the middle of the ring following a Running Shooting Star Press.
The win has already been compared to The 1-2-3 Kid's shock victory over Razor Ramon on a 1993 episode of Monday Night Raw, a win that helped launch Sean Waltman's career. Andretti was signed full-time by AEW following the match.
According to Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, Andretti's shock win over Jericho has been in the works for two months since The Ocho watched Action's match with QT Marshall that was taped for Dark on October 7.
"The story behind this is that Action Andretti...had a match on one of the streaming shows against QT Marshall, and Chris Jericho was watching the match and decided at that moment that this guy's gonna be a star. He decided that he was going to make him a star. This was way back. He had all this stuff to do, the Claudio feud, these other matches...This match on this date. This was not something where it was decided yesterday. This was weeks and weeks and weeks ago. The date was decided on the day of the Action Andretti and QT match," Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Action Andretti made his AEW debut back in January 2022 and he returned to the company in October, performing on the promotion's YouTube shows. How AEW plan to utilise Andretti moving forward is currently unknown.
