If AEW moving the AEW World Championship unification match between CM Punk and Jon Moxley from All out to the August 24 Dynamite wasn’t a shock, then the outcome certainly was, with Interim Champion Moxley squashing Lineal Champion Punk in under three minutes.

A report from Fightful Select has shed a little more light on the circumstances of the match, with AEW sources alleging that it was potentially Moxley who pitched the idea and the date of the bout, with Punk  “eventually agreeing to it”.

Whilst card is always subject to change for any wrestling event, Fightful were told the decision was not the original plan, and ‘multiple plans’ had changed for All Out.

Moxley finished CM Punk with two Death Riders after Punk seemingly re-injured his foot, with backstage trainers including Punk’s close friend Ace Steel helping ‘the Second City Saint’ to the back afterwards. Whether this was a work or if Punk’s injury was worse than initially believed remains t be seen, and as of yet there is no indication as to who Moxley could face for the title at All Out on September 4.
