Report: CM Punk's "Counterfeit Bucks" Line On AEW Collision Approved By Management

More on CM Punk's return promo and his "counterfeit bucks" line

The issues between CM Punk and The Young Bucks reached All Elite Wrestling TV for the first time in almost a year during the debut episode of AEW Collision on June 17.

CM Punk opened the show with his return in front of his hometown fans in Chicago, Illinois and the fans inside the United Center quickly started chanting "f**k The Elite" after Punk started talking. Punk then continued with his promo before he claimed that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav calls him "one bill Phil" because he is the one true genuine article in a business filled with "counterfeit bucks."

The comment was widely considered a dig at The Young Bucks and Matt and Nick Jackson may have perceived it that way as they changed their Twitter bio soon after to, "If it were 2018, we'd already have a 'Counterfeit Bucks' shirt available on PWT. -- Kill it y'all!"

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has since reported the whole line was approved by AEW management, so The Young Bucks may well have known the line was coming and had the bio change ready. Meltzer also noted that many considered the "one bill Phil" comment to be a reference to the rumoured $1 billion deal with WBD that turned out not to be true, but the line was considered ambiguous enough that it could be blown off as just a line in a promo.

Following his return promo, Punk made his in-ring return to close out Collision in an electric Trios Match with FTR against Samoa Joe and Bullet Club Gold. The interactions between Punk and Joe in particular received huge reactions.
