Report: Creative Issues Between WWE & Ronda Rousey Over SummerSlam Match

Ronda Rousey reportedly had issues with WWE creative over SummerSlam match

Ronda Rousey is seemingly out of the WWE for the time being, with the former WWE Women’s Champion expected to go on hiatus from the company following her loss to Shayna Baszler in an MMA rules match at SummerSlam 2023.

Rousey lost to her former Four Horsewomen ally in a match that divided opinion, and according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Rousey and Baszler has issues with WWE creative heading into the bout:

“Ronda and Shayna wasn’t the best match. There were issues between WWE creative and them as far as how it was gonna go, and you don’t have knockdowns in an MMA fight and do ten counts, or whatever, but it’s like, you have some people stuck in one mentality of combat and others in another, and it kind of, I think that it kind of hurt that,” said Meltzer.

WWE have tried MMA inspired matches on several occasions dating all the way back to the Attitude Era, with the likes of the Lion’s Den and Fight Pit match WWE’s take on unscripted combat sport.
