Report: GCW Almost Bought CZW

Almost bought an old rival

Game Changer Wrestling almost purchased fellow Deathmatch Wrestling promotion Combat Zone Wrestling, according to a new report.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider has noted that a Memorandum of Understanding had been signed for GCW to purchase and revitalise CZW. Owner of CZW DJ Hyde ultimately had second thoughts, though, and pulled out of the deal.

Following the deal's collapse, GCW instead turned their attention to Jersey Championship Wrestling, the promotion's predecessor, and JCW was relaunched in March 2021.

A New Jersey independent wrestling promotion, JCW ran from 1999 until Brett Lauderdale took over the company in 2015 and renamed it GCW.

Combat Zone Wrestling has been inactive since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020 but the promotion recently announced their return with the 'Renaissance Of Tradition' event on October 24. The show will be held at Studio Z in Blackwood, New Jersey and tickets are 'Pay What You Wish' as all proceeds will be donated to www.BreastCancer.org. Talent advertised for the show include Fred Yehi, Lucky 13 and Diego Hill.
