Report: Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay Held Back At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay reportedly chose to hold back at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega decided to hold back for their match at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.

Ospreay and Omega went one-on-one for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship inside the Tokyo Dome and The Best Bout Machine emerged victorious following a Kamigoye and One Winged Angel in a somewhat surprising result due to his AEW commitments.

The result appears to set up future clashes between Omega and Ospreay and Dave Meltzer reported that the two wrestlers held back due to the prospect of future bouts.

"They held back on a lot of what they could do. It was very much like we have to do a lot of selling, we cannot do a lot of moves because we have to save the moves for upcoming matches. I don't know when they will be but they certainly want matches, whether it's in the United States or Japan," Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Despite reportedly holding back, Ospreay and Omega still had a match that featured a number of major moves, including a Croyt's Wrath and a DDT from the top rope onto an exposed turnbuckle.
