Report: KENTA Rejects CM Punk Match At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

CM Punk vs. KENTA At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door is off

CM Punk's bag wasn't big enough for KENTA.

A dream match between KENTA and CM Punk was planned for the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view but that match is now off. According to Fightful Select, KENTA told NJPW and AEW that he wouldn't be facing Punk at Forbidden Door, effectively rejecting the match. By the time KENTA tweeted that the match wouldn't be happening, KENTA had told officials that he wouldn't be facing Punk at Forbidden Door.

There is no word on why KENTA decided to reject the match. The two men have had issues for years, though, over Punk adopting the Go To Sleep as his finishing move.

As of the weekend, AEW was considering who Punk would face at Forbidden Door, or even if he would be on the card at all as most of NJPW's top talent are already scheduled to face other opponents. Punk was said to be open to wrestling KENTA at the pay-per-view.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will emanate from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada on Sunday, June 25.
