Further doubt has arisen over Malakai Black's immediate in-ring future.

The AEW star was scheduled to face Matt Taven at an upcoming Northeast Wrestling event in Niles, Ohio on September 9. Black has since pulled himself off the show, though, PWInsider have reported. Other names announced for the event include Penta Oscuro, Jerry Lawler, John Morrison, Erick Redbeard, and Ricky Starks.

Black pulling himself out of the indy booking comes only days after he bowed and blew a kiss to the crowd at Sunday's All Out pay-per-view following House of Black's match against Sting, Darby Allin, and Miro.

His AEW future has been uncertain over the past week following a report from Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. which claimed Black had asked for his AEW release, a request which was rejected. It was also noted that a personal situation has weighed heavily on Black and he has privately mentioned stepping away from pro wrestling, possibly permanently.

Black is still listed on the AEW roster page as of September 7.

UPDATE: AEW talent have reportedly been informed that Malakai Black is done with the company. Find out more here.
