On last night's special "In Your Face" edition of Monday Night Raw, Asuka defended the Raw Women's Championship against Mickie James. Both women battled back and forth for close to 12 minutes but the match ended under controversial circumstances. Late in the bout, Asuka trapped James in the Asuka Lock but the six-time women's champion countered by shifting her weight. The referee then suddenly called for the bell and the ring announcer revealed The Empress Of Tomorrow had retained her title because Mickie was unable to continue.
WWE gave no further explanation about the botched finish, but Mick Foley later tweeted that he had heard James injured her shoulder during the match.
The WWE Hall Of Famer wrote: "I'm hearing that @MickieJames may have injured her shoulder in tonight's #Raw match - which would explain the quick ending to the match. If true, I'm wishing Mickie a quick and complete recovery... and hoping she gets another shot at the title."
James only recently returned to WWE TV on August 10 after over a year on the sidelines with an ACL injury.
