Report: Reason For Becky Lynch's Upcoming WWE NXT Women's Title Match Revealed

Becky Lynch will return to WWE NXT next week

For the first time in four years, Becky Lynch is set to wrestle on WWE NXT when she challenges Tiffany Stratton for the NXT Women's Championship on the September 12 edition of the Tuesday night show.

WWE have been building the match in recent weeks after Stratton mistakenly called Lynch a former WWE NXT Women's Champion. After a brief interaction on Twitter in which Lynch teased an NXT return, Stratton appeared in the crowd on Monday Night Raw before she interrupted Lynch's backstage interview at Payback. The match was then made official this week after Lynch appeared on the titantron following Stratton's win over Kiana James and challenged her to a match.

Outside of putting the match on NXT for storyline purposes, WWE have booked Lynch for the September 12 show because the company is determined to beat AEW Dynamite in the key 18-49 demographic, Bryan Alvarez reported on Wrestling Observer Live.

"So, they're going in for the kill next week [for WWE NXT]. They're determined to beat AEW Dynamite in the 18-49 demographic," Alvarez said.

WWE NXT have been aiming to beat AEW Dynamite in the main demo and in the 18-34 demo over the past couple of months, with WWE hoping to achieve that by booking main roster talents on NXT.

WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite previously went head-to-head in the Wednesday Night Wars from October 2019 until April 2021. AEW won in the key 18-49 demo for the vast majority of the time until NXT moved to Tuesday nights.
