Report: Shane McMahon Pushed For WWE WrestleMania 38 Match Against Austin Theory

A match for Vince McMahon's affections?

Shane McMahon had big plans for his WrestleMania 38 match.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Shane had pushed to face Austin Theory at The Showcase Of The Immortals with a build that would have centered around Theory being Vince McMahon's protege. The match was never 100% locked in, though.

Theory has been aligned with the WWE Chairman since the former EVOLVE Champion admitted to stealing Cleopatra's egg at Survivor Series 2021 and the 24-year-old has been featured in several high-profile matches in recent months against the likes of AJ Styles and Finn Balor.

Outside of Shane wanting a match with Theory, the 52-year-old was also booked to face Bobby Lashley and then Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38, with PWInsider noting an angle between Shane and Rollins was scheduled for the Men's Rumble until The Visionary was pulled from the match.

Instead, though, McMahon won't be in action at WrestleMania nor Elimination Chamber as he is reportedly "out" of WWE after he had considerable heat backstage due to his producing of the Men's Rumble.
