According to a new report, WWE considered booking Bobby Lashley versus Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 38.

Shane returned to WWE in last Saturday's Royal Rumble match, entering at number 28, lasting 5:38 and eliminating Kevin Owens before being tossed over the top rope by eventual winner Brock Lesnar.

There were reports that people backstage were unhappy with Shane (who was one of the producers for the Men's Rumble match) over his role in laying it out.

Lashley, meanwhile, beat Brock Lesnar to win his second WWE Title at the show.

Discussing Lashley's role at WrestleMania on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez said:

"I can confirm that as of a couple of days ago, their plan for Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania was Shane McMahon. I think that’s changed but that absolutely 100% was their plan".

Alvarez also noted plans for the match was scrapped following the Rumble and McMahon was then scheduled to face Seth Rollins but that match appears to have been binned as well.

Lashley and Shane wrestled each other on several occasions in 2007, as part of The All Mighty's feud with Vince McMahon, Shane and Umaga.

They last met when they were on opposite sides of the Team Raw versus Team SmackDown elimination match at Survivor Series 2018.
