While the opening contest at Saturday's Royal Rumble pay-per-view between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins received praise, fans weren't so high on the remainder of the card and the Men's Rumble, in particular, was widely criticised, with many noting it was a slow, plodding affair without the usual surprises.

WWE were seemingly negative about the Men's Rumble too and Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live the company were aware the match was "boring."

"You'll be pleased to know I'm not the only one who thought the Men's Royal Rumble was boring. They're well aware the Men's Rumble was boring and their plan is to make sure next year it's not boring," Alvarez said.

Shane McMahon was reportedly heavily involved in producing the Men's Rumble and many within the company were unhappy with the self-proclaimed Best In The World, partly because he booked himself to eliminate Kevin Owens and was confrontational backstage.

There was also major frustration within WWE ahead of Saturday's pay-per-view, primarily due to the sheer number of changes that were made to the Rumble before the show began.
