Report: Some In WWE 'Absolutely Do Not Want' CM Punk To Return

Dampen those expectations on a CM Punk WWE return

While CM Punk remains under contract with All Elite Wrestling, the 44-year-old's future in the promotion looks bleak and he is reportedly in talks with the company over a contract buyout. This comes after Punk was suspended for his involvement in a backstage fight post-All Out with Ace Steel, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks. Several of AEW's top stars have since made it known they won't work with Punk if he does return to the promotion in 2023.

With Punk's AEW future in doubt, some have speculated about a possible WWE return but Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that he knows people in WWE who "absolutely do not want" the former WWE Champion to come back to the company.

"I know people in WWE who absolutely do not want him [CM Punk] there, but they are not the people on the creative team. Paul [Levesque] may just go in there and go, 'Look what happened, we don't need it'. And they don't. They don't need it, and he may just do that. If it was Vince, Vince would do it I think, with that kind of money at stake," Meltzer said.

While there may be opposition to a WWE return for Punk, recent reports have noted that Triple H's stance on Punk coming back has softened and him turning up on WWE TV following his AEW exit cannot be ruled out.
