Triple H has re-signed with WWE, putting pen to paper on a new multi-year deal to remain the head of creative in his role as WWE Chief Content Officer, but Paul Levesque's long-term future with the company was actually in doubt ahead of WrestleMania 42, Bryan Alvarez has reported on Wrestling Observer Live.

The lack of confidence around Triple H remaining with WWE for years to come wasn't due to his job performance, but it was simply an observation that emerged within the company due to TKO's interference in WWE storylines, particularly Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll's insertion into the programme between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton over the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Alvarez said:

"I will say that this year leading to WrestleMania, unlike previous years when fans were like discussing it, it was a topic of conversation in WWE leading up to this WrestleMania… The people discussing this within WWE, they were not discussing this in the sense that we think he's doing a horrible job, we need him to be replaced. It was being discussed specifically because so much stuff was being done at the last second by people outside. The decision to bring in Pat McAfee. The decision to insert him into the storyline. The thing with Jelly Roll.
"I had heard about it prior to that as well with other things that had come from above. It was just kind of there was a feeling that perhaps these people keep getting involved and why would they be getting involved if they had so much faith in this guy. And there were people that thought, 'I don't know if this guy is going to be around this time next year.' Turns out he ends up getting his deal extended so he will be around, but it was definitely a discussion point that this may not be his thing for a long period of time. It could be over soon."

Triple H has been the head of WWE creative since the summer of 2022, although he would often be in conflict with Vince McMahon over creative until McMahon resigned as TKO Executive Chairman in January 2024 after he was accused of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse by former WWE employee Janel Grant.

While Triple H is the head of WWE creative, though, final say over creative is retained by TKO CEO Ari Emanuel and TKO President Mark Shapiro, and Pat McAfee being unveiled as Randy Orton's mystery caller was an Ari Emanuel decision. McAfee has since been written out of the angle at WrestleMania 42 after he backed out of being involved.
