Report: Update On Plans For Kenny Omega Vs. Will Ospreay Rematch

Will Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay II happen?

When Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay finally locked up in singles competition at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January it blew away all expectations, with the two putting on an early Match of the Year candidate on January 4.

The bout was a long time coming, with the two wrestlers going back and forth on social media and in interviews for months before the match was officially confirmed.

With AEW announcing that AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II is set for Toronto in June, fans have wondered if we could be getting a long-awaited rematch this summer, and in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer said the following about a potential rematch:

"We also know that at one point there was hope Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay II would be at Forbidden Door. This was never official past we were told before the Tokyo Dome that they were working with the idea of two matches, Wrestle Kingdom and Forbidden Door. And we don't know the situation with Ospreay's injury. But it will be interesting what kind of a number this show can do. Toronto is traditionally one of the best wrestling markets in the world."

Ospreay was recently sidelined with a shoulder injury and pulled from the New Japan Cup. It remains to be seen how long the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion will be out of action for.
