Will Ospreay Sustains Shoulder Injury, Pulled From New Japan Cup

Will Ospreay pulled from New Japan Cup due to shoulder injury

One of New Japan Pro-Wrestling's top stars is dealing with an injury.

NJPW announced today that Will Ospreay suffered an injury to his right shoulder during his New Japan Cup second-round match against United Empire faction-mate Mark Davis on March 13. As a result, Ospreay has been pulled from today's show in Okayama and there is no timetable for his return.

Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Ospreay sustained the injury during a risky spot in the contest after taking a Senton from Davis while he was buried under the floor mats. Ospreay noted he heard a "pop" following the spot before he continued with the match.

Ospreay was scheduled to team with Aussie Open to take on Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI, and Ryohei Oiwa today. Jeff Cobb was confirmed as Ospreay's replacement for the match.

Ospreay was scheduled to face EVIL in the quarter-finals of the New Japan Cup on Friday, March 17, but due to the injury New Japan have pulled Ospreay from the cup entirely, with Mark Davis taking his place against EVIL. The victor will face the winner of Tetsuya Naito vs. SANADA in the semi-finals.
