Report: Update On Possibility Of The Rock Vs. Roman Reigns At WWE WrestleMania 40

Could The Rock vs. Roman Reigns happen at WWE WrestleMania 40?

The Rock’s recent surprise return to WWE on the September 15 edition of SmackDown once again prompted the question; could we finally be set to see The Rock vs. Roman Reigns in the not-too-distant future?

Whilst Rock’s appearance was facilitated by the SAG-AFTRA writer's strike in Hollywood, Rock vs. Roman will always remain WWE’s priority for WrestleMania, according to a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

However, despite WWE’s best wishes for the marquee match to take place, it is all dependant on Rock’s schedule, and his own personal decision. The match was long rumoured to take place at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood, but The Rock could not commit, leading to Cody Rhodes taking on Roman in the main event slot instead.

Meltzer suggests that Rock officially pulled out of a Mania 39 match just before the 2023 Royal Rumble, with Rock not wanting to come in without ample preparation time, wanting to be match-ready and in ring shape with the hope of putting on a Mania calibre main event rather than being carried to a match.

It was suggested around the time of Mania 39 that if time and schedule permitted that, ‘The Great One’ would be open to doing the match at WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia, but if he once again cannot commit then Cody Rhodes may get another chance to ‘finish the story’.
