It was revealed last weekend that former head writer of SmackDown and multi-time WWE World Tag Team Champion “Road Dogg” Brian James had been made the new co-lead writer of Friday Night SmackDown, joining John Swikata at the head of the creative table for the blue brand. Road Dogg had previously headed up SmackDown between the years of 2016 and 2019, before stepping down from that role and eventually getting released in 2022… until he was rehired later in the year to take up Jeff Jarrett’s live event role.

An insight into the wider landscape of the WWE creative team has been provided by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, who detailed that there was a lot going on within WWE right now, so there was a need to have lead writers at the top of both brands, with RAW having Ryan Ward and John Baeckstrom. In addition to the four lead writers, Ed Koskey is working overseeing and editing the scripts for WWE programming.

Above them is the Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, with Bruce Pritchard acting as a “buffer” between Triple H and the other members of the team. After the news of Road Dogg’s new role, AJ Styles defended WWE’s decision to appoint him
