Friday Night SmackDown in New Orleans saw the return of The Rock, who brought his Final Boss persona to the show, calling out Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. The Rock asked Cody Rhodes to be “his champion”, hinting at a potential Corporate Champion storyline in the upcoming months. The Rock told Rhodes that he’d await his answer to the question at the Elimination Chamber 2025 PLE in Toronto.
Originally, reports suggested that the long-term plan after last night’s WrestleMania was for The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes to take place at WrestleMania 41, but with the Elimination Chamber set to determine the number one contender for the title, this seems out of the question. This follows up reports of The Rock not being scheduled to wrestle at WrestleMania 41 which emerged over the last year.
At the post-show press conference after SmackDown, The Rock spoke on his storyline with Cody Rhodes and claimed that it didn’t necessarily need to lead to a match between the two.
“In the world of pro wrestling, as we all know, everything will culminate to a match. Whatever happens, it’ll end up in the ring. What I really love about this rare air space that we’ve gotten to with the character of the Final Boss it’s like this white whale unicorn in that with the Final Boss and Cody Rhodes, it’s not about the WWE title, it’s not about having a match….it never has to culminate to a match. That’s a really special place to be I think creatively and just think character-wise and how much fun you can have. To be able to have a storyline and two characters who are very popular, to never have to get into the ring for a match but yet still hold this really unique, compelling, off-putting, kind of weird, he wants his soul, what does that mean? I love it and loved every minute of it.”
The Rock also made the huge announcement that WrestleMania 42 would be heading to New Orleans in 2026.
