The Rock returned to WWE on last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown in an appearance that came together at the last minute, with news circulating in the day that he was set to be at SmackDown in New Orleans. He called out Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, and reflected on their last year together.
He revealed to the world that since battling it out at WrestleMania 40, they’d become friends and even their momma’s has become friends, but The Rock wanted something more. He fell back into his Final Boss persona, toying with the idea that he was the most powerful man in the company, before revealing that he wanted Cody Rhodes to be “his champion”, promising a life full of riches for his family.
Rhodes responded by saying he was the champion of the people, and asked The Rock if all this was about the WWE Championship. The Rock gave Rhodes time to think on the offer, revealing he’d be at the upcoming Elimination Chamber PLE in Toronto to hear his answer. The segment ended with The Rock claiming that he didn’t want the title, he wanted Cody Rhodes’ soul. It remains to be seen how The Rock’s return factors into WWE’s current WrestleMania 41 plans, and whether a ‘Corporate Cody’ is on the horizon. Prior to The Rock's appearance, Triple H teased that everything could "change in an instant". It was also reported in recent weeks that The Rock was unhappy at reports that he wouldn't be involved at WrestleMania 41.
