At The Horror Show at Extreme Rules, the deeply personal rivalry between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio came to a head in an Eye For An Eye match. The two Superstars battled back and forth for 18 minutes but the bout ended after The Monday Night Messiah forced Rey's eye into the corner of the steel steps, causing it to dislodge from the socket. Fans didn't see the eye actually pop out of the eyesocket but Rey could be seen holding a toy eye while Rollins vomited at ringside.

The final product was almost more gruesome, however, as Mike Johnson at PWInsider reported WWE taped the match ahead of the pay-per-view on Sunday and filmed an entire sequence where it was made to look like Mysterio's eye popped out using prosthetic makeup.

Johnson noted Vince McMahon hated how the effect looked on-screen and the sequence as a whole and decided to edit it out of the final broadcast. The boss was reportedly "very hands-on" with putting the match together and even picked out the weapons Rollins and Mysterio used during the bout.
