Report: Why Brock Lesnar Vs. Bobby Lashley Isn't Happening At WWE SummerSlam 2021

Lesnar won't be at this Summer's show

It appears we finally have an idea of who will be challenging Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2021, with reports indicating WWE Hall Of Famer Goldberg will get the bout.

While certainly a huge match for the Las Vegas pay-per-view in August, there had been hope that Lashley would finally square up with Brock Lesnar in a WWE ring, with fans calling for the two former MMA stars to meet.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea of having Lashley and Lesnar meet at SummerSlam was discussed in WWE, despite officials denying any such talks.

In the end, however, the decision was made not to go with Lesnar as The Beast wouldn't be coming back for a substantial number of shows at this time, meaning Lesnar would have to lose to Lashley.

Such a defeat to Lesnar would reportedly not sit well with those in Roman Reigns' camp, as they see a match between Reigns and Lesnar with the new Paul Heyman dynamic as one of the biggest programs available to WWE right now, and one they would not want weakened by Lesnar losing to Lashley or doing a non-finish with the WWE Champion.
