Report: WWE Changed Winners For Both Royal Rumble Matches

Plans changed...

Part of the road to WrestleMania 36 has been paved, as a result of Sunday night's Royal Rumble matches in Houston.

Charlotte Flair and Drew McIntyre won their respective matches to earn World title bouts for the April 5 card, with McIntyre a near mortal lock to take on Universal champion Brock Lesnar, based on their interaction in the Rumble itself.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, however, Flair and McIntyre were not the original choices of winner for the two matches.

"Shayna Baszler and Roman Reigns were scheduled to win the two Royal Rumbles," said Meltzer on the post-Rumble edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. "And then as they were trying to decide what was going to happen for WrestleMania, the decision was made to go with Charlotte Flair and Drew McIntyre."

Meltzer believes that plans changed sometime on or around January 14, especially in regards to the women's Rumble. He notes that prior to that date, the heavy betting money was coming in on Baszler to win, before suddenly shifting to Flair on January 14.
