Report: WWE Considered Bringing Back X-Pac For Royal Rumble

It would have been his first WWE match in 20 years

WWE considered bringing back Sean "X-Pac" Waltman for the Men's Royal Rumble, according to a new report.

Speaking on a Fightful Select Q&A Podcast, Sean Ross Sapp noted WWE thought about using X-Pac in the Rumble but the company looked to use fewer NXT talents and outside wrestlers instead.

"Yes, there was. However, I was told they wanted to lean away from NXT 2.0 talent and a lot of outside names for the men, which is what we saw," Sean Ross Sapp said.

This comes after X-Pac revealed he reached out to WWE about his willingness to work the January 29 match and he believed the organisation weren't interested.

If he had returned at the pay-per-view, it would have been Waltman's first WWE match in 20 years, with his last contest with the company having been back on a July 2002 episode of Raw.

Waltman hasn't wrestled at all since April 2019 but he recently recovered from knee surgery and he is set to return to the ring later this month in GCW.
