REVEALED: Why WWE Released Jinder Mahal, Xia Li & Others

It has been learned why WWE conducted their recent talent releases

On Friday, it was revealed that several individuals had been released from their WWE contracts. Jinder Mahal, Xia Li, Veer, Sanga, and Xyon Quinn were those let go by the company. Despite a record breaking WrestleMania 40 event and a boom in business, the reason cited by WWE, according to Fightful Select, was budget cuts.

Additionally, WWE higher ups told Fightful Select that the releases of these certain individuals also came down to reasons such as WWE having no creative plans, the wrestlers not being regulars on WWE programming, and an assessment of their progression. It was also said that those in WWE found out about these releases as they emerged in the news rather than internal memos being sent out.

There have been releases in WWE since the regime change, though this is the first set of releases conducted under the supposed “new era”. Not much is known about how this news was conveyed to those let go, aside from the fact that it was via a phone call, much like the previous regime. In terms of other reasons, Fightful Select did not hear of any sort of heat or issues that would have led to these individuals leaving the company.
