Rey Mysterio To Challenge Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns In Mexico

Rey Mysterio vs. Roman Reigns confirmed for a WWE event in Mexico

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio will receive a shot at Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at an upcoming live event.

WWE announced that the 'Master of the 619' will clash with 'The Tribal Chief' when the company goes south of the border for a two-day tour this weekend.

Mysterio and Reigns will headline the live event at the CDMX Arena in Mexico City on July 22. Also announced for the show is Seth Rollins defending his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Rey's son Dominik and Cody Rhodes wrestling Damian Priest.

The night before heading to Mexico, Rey will compete in a four-way match on Friday Night SmackDown. Mysterio will take on Sheamus, Cameron Grimes and LA Knight, with the winner advancing to take on Santos Escobar. The winner of that match will receive a future shot at Austin Theory's United States Championship.

Rey and Reigns have clashed on several occasions in the past. Mysterio was actually the last person to challenge for Roman's title, at a live event in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 17.

Roman's last televised title defence was against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39.
